Please note that a high clearance 4x4 vehicle is required for this trip, with no exceptions. Added fuel, water and food is advised in case of an emergency in these remote locations.

Parking & Pick-up Point

Vehicles of self-drive guests are parked at the pick-up point situated at Möwe Bay under covered parking areas. Fly-in guests will also be picked up at Möwe Bay and transferred the 45km north to Shipwreck Lodge in a closed game drive vehicle.

Pick-up times

The pick-up times from Mowe Bay to Shipwreck Lodge will be at: 11h00 OR 15h00.

Departure time from Shipwreck Lodge to Mowe Bay will be at: 09h00.

PLEASE NOTE:

Ugab River Gate opening / closing times: 07:30 to 15:00 (NO entry after 15:00) Visitors need to have exited the park by 18h00

Springbokwasser Gate opening / closing times: 07:30 to 15:00 (NO entry after 15:00) Visitors need to have exited the park by 18h00.

Day visitors are not allowed to visit Torra Bay and Terrace Bay, this is only reserved for visitors who are in possession of an accommodation voucher at these establishments.


Directions to Möwe Bay

PLEASE ENSURE YOU CARRY SUFFICIENT SPARE FUEL WITH YOU – THERE IS NO FUEL AVAILABLE AT TERRACE BAY NOR TORRA BAY.


Driving from Swakopmund:

  • Drive onto the C34 towards Hentiesbaai for approximately 69km.
  • In Hentiesbaai you continue for approximately 120km on the C34 towards the Ugab Gate.
  • At this point it is important to show your booking confirmation/voucher and prove that you are staying at Shipwreck Lodge.
  • Proceed for another 103km on the C34 until you reach Torra Bay.
  • From Torra Bay you will continue on the D2302 towards Terrace Bay for 58km and on towards Möwe Bay for another 82km.
  • You now have reached the pick-up point at Möwe Bay.

Driving from Palmwag:

  • Drive south onto the C43 towards Khorixas.
  • After approximately 40km you will reach the C39.
  • Turn right onto the C39 and follow the road for 60km until you reach Springbok Water Gate.
  • At this point it is important to show your booking confirmation/voucher and prove that you are staying at Shipwreck Lodge.
  • Continue on the C39 for another 33km until you reach Torra Bay.
  • From Torra Bay you will continue on the D2302 towards Terrace Bay for 58km and on towards Möwe Bay for another 82km.
  • You now have reached the pick-up point at Möwe Bay.

    Driving from Khorixas:

    DRIVING FROM KHORIXAS

    • Drive onto the C39 towards Palmwag for 126km.
    • After 126km you will reach the turnoff towards Palmwag, stay on the C39 towards Torra Bay for another 60km until you reach Springbok Water Gate.
    • At this point it is important to show your booking confirmation/voucher and prove that you are staying at Shipwreck Lodge.
    • Continue on the C39 for another 33km until you reach Torra Bay.
    • From Torra Bay you will continue on the D2302 towards Terrace Bay for 58km and on towards Möwe Bay for another 82km.
    • You now have reached the pick-up point at Möwe Bay.
