Parking & Pick-up
Vehicles of self-drive guests are parked at the pickup point situated at Möwe Bay. Fly-In guests will also be picked up at Möwe Bay. You will then be transferred the 45km north to the Shipwreck Lodge in a closed game drive vehicle.

Pick-up times
The pick-up times from Möwe Bay Airstrip to the Lodge are 11:00 or 15:00
The departure time from Shipwreck Lodge to the Möwe Bay Airstrip is 09:00
Self-Drive Clients
Clients will enter the Skeleton Coast National Park and will be driving along a gravel road towards Möwe Bay. This is where the client’s pick-up will take please
Please note:
The roads in the park are gravel roads and their condition may be
affected by weather and wind. It is advisable to drive a high clearance
vehicle, preferably a 4x4, especially on the final leg between Terrace
Bay and Möwe Bay. The last petrol station is in Terrace Bay and cell
phone reception ends there.
Accompanied transfers for self-drive guests to Shipwreck Lodge

Accompanied transfer is a service offered by Shipwreck Lodge to allow self-drive
guests to enter the park at one entry point and exit at another.
Unaccompanied driving within the Shipwreck Lodge concession is strictly prohibited.
Requirements
- Preferably a high clearance 4x4 vehicle with low range gearing.
- GPS in the vehicle is a must.
Terms and Conditions for accompanied transfer
- Accompanied by one of our vehicles and guides, self-drive guests may drive their own vehicle from the meeting points at Leylands Drift and Möwe Bay to the lodge.
- Private vehicles remain parked at the lodge for the duration of the guests’ stay.
- Guests are strictly prohibited from driving into Skeleton Coast National Park unaccompanied.
- Guests must wait at the chosen meeting point, Leylands Drift or Möwe Bay, for the Shipwreck Lodge vehicle to accompany them.
- Self-drive vehicles must follow the Shipwreck Lodge vehicle in its exact tracks to the lodge.
- Self-drive is at the driver’s own risk.
- Drivers will have to drive through thick sand. Prior experience is necessary.
Meeting Points
The meeting point, either Leylands Drift or Möwe Bay, needs to be arranged in advance. Strict adherence to the departure time from these points is required.
A map will be provided once bookings are confirmed.

A trip includes the accompanied transfer from either entry point at Leylands Drift or Möwe Bay and exiting through the other.
Directions to Möwe Bay
Driving from Swakopmund
- Follow the C34 to Henties Bay (69 km) and continue for a further 120 km to the Ugab Gate into Skeleton Coast Park.
- At the gate you will be required to produce your voucher as proof that you are staying at Shipwreck Lodge.
- Proceed on the C34 (for 103 km) to Torra Bay, then take the D2302 to Terrace Bay (58 km). In Terrace Bay you are able to refuel, and it is the last spot with cell
- phone reception.
- The final leg to Möwe Bay is 82 km.
- Möwe Bay is your pick-up point. Your guide will meet you at the reception area and take you to Shipwreck Lodge.

Driving from Palmwag
- Drive south on the C43 towards Khorixas.
- After approximately 40 km turn onto the C39 and drive west for 60 km to the Springbok Water Gate into Skeleton Coast National Park.
- At the gate you will be required to produce your voucher as proof that you are staying at Shipwreck Lodge.
- Continue on the C39 to Torra Bay (33 km), then take the D2302 to Terrace Bay (58 km). In Terrace Bay you are able to refuel, and it is the last spot with cell phone reception.
- The final leg to Möwe Bay is 82 km.
- Möwe Bay is your pick-up point. Your guide will meet you at the reception area and take you to Shipwreck Lodge.

Driving from Khorixas
- Take the C39 towards Palmwag. Pass the turnoff to Palmwag (after 126 km) and continue on the C39 towards Torra Bay for a further 60 km until you reach the Springbok Water Gate into Skeleton Coast National Park.
